rescue and recovery

October 30, 2011

Saturday was a late night for us here in Boston. Not deterred by the horizontal gusts of rain and snow, we braved the elements to “Halloween” with friends in the city.  The night consisted largely of thirty-somethings partying like twenty-somethings in a local establishment where the general clientele made us feel ancient. If one thing is for certain, it’s that my 2011 body just can’t endure the late night shenanigans that my 2001 body once referred to as “pre-gaming.”

Needless to say, waking up on Sunday morning stung a bit – and called for immediate liquid detox. I threw the following in my Vitamix, popped a few aspirin, and about an hour later felt great enough to drive to the suburbs to photograph a family.  And – did I mention it’s orange?  Yessir, festive and cute even in our hangovers.  Hope someone out there benefits from this smoothie’s healing powers as much as I did.  Boy, I needed it!

CARROT APPLE GINGER RESCUE SMOOTHIE

– 1 large carrot, cleaned and cut into a few pieces
– 1 x 1″ cube of fresh ginger (no need to peel)
– 1 pear, stem removed
– 1 small apple, stem removed
– 1 Tbs lemon juice (or half a small lemon, squeezed)
– cover with sparkling mineral water or coconut water

blend until smooth.
